Itinerary

Day 1. Arrival at Chandigarh

Arrive at the hotel in Chandigarh. Collect your bikes. Meet the fellow riders from the tour. Tour briefing will happen in the evening during which the Tour captain will explain about the route and terrain in detail.

Day 2. Chandigarh – Narkanda ( 200 Kms)

Early start from the hotel and you start riding towards the Himalayas. You cross the beautiful hill-station named Chail which boasts of having the highest cricket ground in the world and ride through Apple and Cherry orchards to the reach Narkanda.

Day 3. Narkanda – Chitkul ( 200 Kms)

After breakfast, you proceed to Sangla watching the Bapsa river magically weave itself along the road. Sangla is noted for the cultivation of apples, pears, walnuts, apricots or potatoes. From here, you ride to one of the most scenic routes in Kinnaur valley towards the scenic settlements of Chitkul, close to Indo-Tibet border.

Day 4. Chitkul - Nako ( 170 Kms)

After a delicious breakfast, you ride to Reckong Peo which is one of the main town in Kinnaur. A short ride from here, you reach Kalpa from where we get the glimpse of the holy Kinnaur Kailash mountain. From here, you proceed to Nako for overnight stay. Watch the evening sunset from top of a nearby hill overlooking Nako lake.

 

Day 5. Nako - Dhankar ( 100 Kms)

Today's first stop will be at Nako Helipad for a quick photoshoot. Then you visit the Gue Monastery: Home to 500-years-old Indian Mummy of a Buddhist monk. Then proceed to Tabo, one of the ancient villages with a well-maintained monastery. Post lunch, head to Dhankar for overnight stay. Get an areal view of the river confluence and watch sunset from the fort which is few steps above the Dhankar Monastery.

Day 6. Dhankar - Pin Valley – Kaza ( 250 Kms)

Wake up early and test your fitness level by doing a 3 hours trek to the lake above the Dhankar village. If you are lucky, you might be able to sight some of the endangered species of this region. Post breakfast, you ride to Mud village in Pin Valley and witness one of the most colourful mountain ranges of the Himalayas. From here, we head to Kaza - the commercial capital of the Spiti valley for overnight stay.

 

Day 6. Kaza - Langza – Hikkim – Komik – Kaza ( 80 Kms)

After breakfast, visit the world famous Key/Ki Monastery which is around 1000 years’ old. It is situated at a height of 13,668 feet and was founded by a disciple of the famous Atisha, in the 11th century CE. Then ride to Langza and to the highest village in Asia, Komik, which literally translates to ‘Eye of a snow cock’, which is situated at a height of 4513 metres. Later, ride to Hikkim and visit the world’s highest post office in the world and send a postcard to your friends and family anywhere in the world. If possible, you can even meet the postmaster and hear his stories. In the evening, visit the Kaza market.

 

Day 7. Kaza – Losar – Kumzum la – Chandratal lake ( 100 Kms)

Ride to one of the most photogenic places of the Spiti Valley – the Chandratal Lake after paying tribute to the local goddess, “Kuzum Mata” on top of the Kunzum pass. If the conditions are favourable, you'll take a detour and visit the Asia's highest suspension bridge above 4500 ft - Chicham bridge before reaching Chandratal for the night. You’ll stay in state of the art tents in the Himalayas and spend the evening gazing at the Milky Way and the millions of stars on a clear night.

 

Day 8. Chandratal Lake – Atal tunnel – Manali ( 110 Kms)

This day's ride will be the toughest and it will test your off-road riding skills. First stop will be at Batal for a cup of tea at a small tea-shop run by a beautiful old couple. After tackling few water-crossings, you'll ride through the newly opened Atal tunnel and return to Manali.

In Manali, you are free to explore the ancient temples like Vashisht Kund, Hidimba Mandir and Cultural Museum. For the daredevils who love water-sports, you can try White-water rafting in Beas river. 

 

Day 9. Manali – Chandigarh ( 310 Kms)

This will be the last day of the ride as you come down the mountains to reach Chandigarh. Return the bikes. With this, the Tour of Spiti officially comes to an end.
